In addition to heuristic rules, Vade Retro has an engine which checks the actor behind the declaration of a domain and analyzes the web pages from links included in the e-mail.
These techniques based on the study of technical structure regarding declaration of domain and construction of the web page allow identification of domains and web sites used by

All the modules above are regularly updated by Vade Retro Lab’s engineers (2 to 4 times a day depending on the observed flow) and can be incrementally updated. The filtering engine is mainly using the following technologies:
The heuristic filter
The engine is based on a complex system of non-predictable empirical rules, deduced from the analysis of all components of the message (header fields, subject, body text, html, attachments ...).
The heuristic rules determined by our team of experts are divided into two clearly defined roles:
A first set of rules developed comes from a reactive analysis. From all the end users feedback loop, additional rules are set to block the waves being spread that has not already been adopted by Vade Retro.
A second set of rules are developed from an analysis of the evolution of the use of e-mail and current threats to define generic rules that will block future attacks.
The use of this technology allows a very fine and predictive analysis and categorization of e-mails.
Signature filtering
The technology is primarily used to detect the waves that are not being arrested by the heuristic rules already written. During the reception of a wave, the analysis engine collects the e-mails that have common characteristics to create a unique signature, which incorporated to the rules engine will stop the wave of all systems Vade Retro deployed.
The signature system developed by Vade Retro for the benefit of collecting and block all e-mails with a custom content but belonging to the same wave of attack.
The constitution and automatic feeding of blacklists.
This technology consists in analyzing patterns of protocol, the reservation of domain names, URLs construction and related websites to automatically create and populate two blacklists (domain and URL) seamlessly integrated with Vade Retro engine.
The behavioral analysis.
This predictive technology consists in analyzing the code (html, css) included seamlessly into an e-mail or via an image as well as methods to generate e-mail in order to deduce a probability of affect to the electronic mailbox user. This gives a special status: "Virus probable."
Comparison of virus signatures.
Our partnership with the antivirus editor Dr Web allows us to have a complementary antivirus signature and detect efficiently in e-mails and their attachments all viruses and malwarethat may affect the user's mail.
